There is no best profession. Check them out on the wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page but what is better for you depends on your likes and play style.

Onerabbit.. Please, don't mislead people. In Pre-Searing, it's fine. But afterwards, Mending wammos are a train wreck waiting to happen.
As Darcy said, there is no best. If you prefer outright tons of damage, maybe the elementalist is for you. If you like to toy with your foes and watch them fall apart, the mesmer is recommended. If you find the front lines of battle attractive, the warrior is awaiting. So on. It all just depends on your gameplay style. But if you are going to make a character and keep them in Pre-Searing, I recommend that you use a warrior/monk. If you really plan to play the character full out, do as you wish. |

English is a difficult skill to learn
As is courtesy, politeness and not judging people. now to the question of the op There really isn't a best or most powerful character class and you can have more than 1 character since the basic game gives you 4 character slots. Some are simple choices Do you prefer lots of armor shield and a weapon then its down to warrior or maybe ranger. Spellcaster come next in a variety of flavours, they all have good and not so good abilities and the same armour level. All characters can take a secondary profession so you have a choice of six classes to start with and can add one of the remaining 7 as a secondary. Warrior/Monk or Necro/elementalist Ranger/mesmer, Just random mixes to show how it works. I play necromancer as my main character as its powerfull and I enjoy it. Ranger is my second most played character. Mesmer would be my third choice and I think its the most fun to play but hard to get parties to make room for you, ignorant dolts, must remember to start an asura mesmer in GW2 and lord it over these humans. |

Put in its most simplest form the profesions really break down into 3 classes.
Melee damage dealers: Warroir Assassin Dervish Ranged damage dealer: Rangers Paragons Casters: Elementalist Ritualists Necromancers Mesmers Monks I would sugest starting 1 char from each group and lvling up to 10 or higher and figure out what play type is most fun for you. Then build on that buy making all of those professions and finding what one has the skill set you find works best for you. |

Apologies to Hawk of Storms
I have friends who spell atrociously sometimes its lack of education heck some were in Vietnam straight from school. Others well sometimes god or accident doesn't give you good equipment to begin with. I now realist in this case its the texting generation thats changing the language I love faster than I can change to stay with it. Anyway sorry for judging your comment. Come to the octoberfest event I can stand you a virtual drink or three |

You'll get four character slots, so you've got plenty of room to test the options. I enjoy playing a Mesmer (a hard profession to learn0, but I also like getting right into the mix of things with my Warrior or letting my pet do it with my Ranger.
